Kanchipuram

Saturday, June 27, 2009
We head to Kanchipuram ("Kanchi"), on an air-conditioned bus where everyone had a seat. Kanchi is one of the seven holy city of Hinduism It boasts 125 temples, visiting the three main we have enough to see the Hindu architecture (note that the city is divided into two with the Shiva temples in the north and Vishnuite temples in the south-east).
Within the Temple Ekambareshvara we could see the sacred mango tree that would have 3000 years, it has 4 branches which grow on fruit flavors and shapes.

We move again we turned to the rental ...
Finally we visited a silk weaving workshop. We have admired the skill with which employees were making saris. A trip to the box store has become for us.

"Noodle Man"

In this article we pay tribute to the greatest chef of india. As you know, here the meat is scarce, but thanks to the valuable advice of former French we discovered this restaurant. His nickname "noodle man" comes from the fact his specialty is the "chicken noodle". The preparation is relatively simple: a few pieces of chicken, noodles, spices, and voila. (Note the very attractive price: Rps 35 or 60 euro cents)

Homemade Electric Toys

Sunday in Mamallapuram

Sunday, up at 8am facing the sea after a breakfast on the run towards Crocodile Bank founded by the American zoologist Romulus Whitaker. 2 hours later and after 45 km of highway motorcycle (instead of 15 km human gps thank you ...), we still pay the entry 3 times more expensive (you said "pigeon"?) and yet we must also pay extra to be able to take pictures.

On the road from the restaurant, stop in Tiger's Cave is a cave guarded by a large boulder adorned head of Yali (mythological creature).

After a good meal, direction Ideal Beach (Barth thank you for sending the dream on the beach and thank you Fredo to have insisted to go) for a session track, swimming and hammocks. A weekend ending with a flourish. In passing a big thank you back to human gps assured us he knew the right stop, result 2 km walk to end the stay. A
soon for new adventures spiced!

Visit Mahabalipuram Pondicherry

Mahabalipuram (or Mamallapuram) is a small Indian town situated 60km south of Chennai known for the importance of its archaeological sites. So after only an hour bus ride we started visiting the famous Shore Temple (Temple of the shoreline). He remains the last vestige of a set of seven temples built twelve centuries ago on almost ten miles along the coast. You should also know that to visit all the sights of the city had to pay our Rs 250 while the Indians have a very reduced rate (only 10 rupees!). That is to say, twenty-five times more expensive for foreigners!

Then we continued our journey through the discovery of a very special rock, defying the law of gravity: "The Butter Ball" (ball of butter). But fortunately Anthony was present to accept the bouboule!

Finally we finished the day with the 5 Ratha, a temple consisting of a set of sculptures rather well preserved.

After this day busy, we had the pleasure of eating freshly grilled fish caught by local fishermen.

Sunday visit to a mosque, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and the market. The market is a labyrinth which combines greengrocers, butchers and fish.

We also visited the temple of Ganesh (the elephant-headed god), for which there is an elephant who blesses people with his trunk in exchange for a room or food.
end of the day on a beach south of Pondicherry, and best tan in the end for everyone.

Getaway to Pondicherry

Saturday Morning 5:30 Wake usually a taxi waiting for us that will never happen at 6:30.
3:30 En route to the bus where we were fortunate to have seats. We will spare you the details on the conduct decent driver Michael Schumacher.
Arrival in Pondicherry at 11:30. We are greeted by a friend of the father of Helen (fellow Polytechnique de Lille), an expatriate French (very friendly and warm that proposes to host us), for 15 years in India and has recently created his NGO (the NGO aims to train Indians for careers metalworker and especially to create an elite in their field, if you're sensitive to this issue here is his email address: emanci_india @ yahoo.fr). Of these
advice we decided to rent bikes and scooters in order to move more easily in Pondy '.
that's when visits will be linked together: Aurobindo Ashram, which owes its name to Sri Aurobindo place of meditation where we could make an introspection inside, then head on Auroville our infernal machines. (This is an international community with no concept of money is trivial, which strives to create a world of tolerance and respect for the environment).
For the evening it was decided to eat at a French restaurant where attentive servers will serve good cold beer and half a chicken (Reply worship: "How Is The Chicken?" "Nice").
Small walk on the beach for digestion ...

Antho king of the jungle

Since our arrival, our dear Antho has found several nicknames: Tarzan and Kirikou. They watch
indeed any fruit in the trees to pick them, and it was converted into a fervent defender of the forest animals. See for yourself the resemblance and feel free to comment!

Huzefa Dungarwalla, London

Today was a day a little more difficult. The Indians are in fact not too organized the coup formalities administrative report to the obstacle course (you have to get the papers to the right and left, but in fact they are not good, and offices are closed because they are napping, or they simply do not want to work ....).
Tonight we wanted to have fun and eat meat:), outside the campus as 3 days without beef became painful. We are therefore left in search of KFC for many miles among the stalls and traffic and we're resigned to take a short rickshaw yellow (4! Firmly packed) to find our way.
